Canada's caregiver route, step by step

Canada has run dedicated immigration pathways for caregivers for a number of years, aimed at people with relevant training who are prepared to work in home or facility-based care. The specific programme names and requirements have changed more than once as Canadian immigration policy has evolved, so treat anything you read — including this article — as a starting point for a conversation with a qualified immigration adviser or Canada's own official immigration service, not as the final word on current rules.

What stays fairly constant across the different versions of these pathways is the shape of the requirement: relevant caregiving training or experience, a genuine job offer or arrangement in many streams, functional English or French, and a clean background and medical check. In practical terms, a graduate considering this route typically moves through: completing a recognised caregiving qualification here, connecting with a recruitment partner for a genuine job opportunity, gathering the language and background documentation the specific programme requires at the time of application, and then working through the formal immigration process itself — which is handled by qualified immigration professionals, not by the college.
